How do I transfer video and sound from an analog 8mm camcorder?

I have a Sony 8mm camcorder with RCA jacks only.
I have a firewire connection on my sound card and several USB ports of course. Is there some economical device that would allow me to transfer video and sound from the camcorder to my PC?

I want to buy the cheapest camcorder / digital video camera possible. I don’t know the technical lingo, but what are the minimum technical specification for descent smooth video, not one of those videos that shows choppy movement I see on youtube.

I’ve always been into the whole making movies thing.
And I would like to start making short clips and stuff.
But i don’t know where to start.
What would you recommend?

-I’m looking for an affordable video camera. And I’m imagining one of those $2000 ones but I guess that’s too.. way out of my league at the moment. I can’t really see myself making a video with a itty bitty camcorder.

Some digital camcorders boast of 10.2 megapixel resolution for stills. However there is no mention of video resolution. Is video resolution somehow related to the resolution of stills? How do we judge the resolution of video recording with a digital camcorder?

I have a VHS-C camcorder and was wondering how you can capture video from it into the computer? My computer doesn’t have any inputs, such as, composite, component, S-video, so can I hook up the camera using a USB cord?

How can I capture video from an old camcorder into my laptop?

I have a very old camcorder, about 9-10 years old. I wanted to know how I can capture the video from it onto my laptop. What type of cable would I be using? I have captured video before using a firewire cable connected to my laptop and a newer camcorder, but what do I use for an old camcorder, that does not have any firewire connections? It only has connections for the AV wires. Is there any way to capture? Thanks in advance!

How do you upload a video from a camcorder to an editing software?

I’m using a USB cable, and I’ve uploaded everything that came with the camcorder. Now everytime I try to ‘capture’ the video and upload it to my video editor, it says that ‘no video capture device is detected’ even though the camcorder is hooked up to the computer by way of a USB cable. Help?

I am planning on attending a wedding and want to take the occasion but still take pictures without having to stop recording and switch to another option so I can take still images.
