Internet And Businesses Online

Trying to keep up with all of the changes on the Internet can seem like an overwhelming task, particularly for those who did not grow up with a computer by their side. Now that the Internet is going… video, smart business owners have started using it as one of their most effective tools in their marketing toolbox. Sadly however, most business owners underutilize this valuable resource. As you will read over the next few weeks, for those who embrace video, you will have a decided advantage over your competition.

Yes… I could talk all day about spending less money advertising and getting better results by using video, (And I will in a later article.), but for now let’s discuss, WHY?

Over the past few years, there have been three significant developments that have opened up the arena for video on the web:

1.) Broadband Tipping Point. The US has reached a tipping point in regards to broadband Internet service. Today, approximately 90 percent of daily active Internet users have broadband. What that means is that broadband provides enough “bandwidth” for the very large video files to play uninterrupted. The visual and sound quality is so good that even the major television networks use the Internet as a way to increase viewership and build a fan base for their shows.
2.) Standardized Format. YouTube has standardized the way we view video. In the past there were multiple video file options but today Flash /.flv video rules. Flash video works with both Mac and PC, and all Internet browsers! Not too long ago, if a website had a video on it, there was a very good chance that you would not be able to view it because of browser and compatibility issues.
3.) Inexpensive and Easy to use Equipment and Software. Consumers can spend as little as $100 for an inexpensive video camera like a Flip. Nowadays, just about every new computer system sold has a video editing software package already installed on the system. It’s no wonder YouTube has exploded!

The Internet in no longer the Information Super Highway, it’s now the Information and ENTERTAINMENT Super Highway. In August 2009, YouTube and Google served over 10 billion videos a month. Overall there were over 21 billion videos viewed! Whether you realize it or not, YouTube and the multitude of other video hosting sites are grooming our future clients. If you want a competitive advantage, your online marketing is going to have to inform and… entertain your visitors.

You can use video to:

1.) Stand Out

Every day of the week we are hit with over 3,000 advertising impressions. The conventional way of advertising is expensive and extremely challenging. How does one break through all of the advertising noise? For the top marketers, video is a key tool in their marketing toolbox.

2.) Counterbalance Skimmer Mentality

Nobody reads all of the copy on your website except for maybe your mother and your competitors. Video allows you to communicate your message in a compelling and entertaining way. This enables you to get the full story out to your prospects.

3.) Add Personality

Getting your personality across with copy is very challenging and if you hire a copywriter, very expensive! With video, your personality will shine through, enabling you to begin building relationships with every visitor.

4.) Evoke Curiosity and Tap Into The Entertainment Factor

The longer you keep people on your site the greater the chance that they will take action. There is no disputing the statistics; websites with video outperform sites without video. The use of green screen special effects in video can also create a lot of “curiosity” and “staying” (on the site) “power”.

5.) To Create Mini Traffic Tsunamis

Video TV shows have been known to flood websites with tens of thousands of visitors in just days, weeks and months after the initial upload of the video. Take the viral video TheTimeMovie.com which for the creator Scott Stratton generated hundreds of speaking inquires and pushed his contact list into the stratosphere.

6.) To Connect and Build Rapport

By using different types of video your business can connect in different ways. An interview format video may work better in one setting, whereas a quick, inexpensive PowerPoint movie might perform just as well or better in a different setting. The various types of video enable the business to take “baby-steps” to the sale. Studies have proven that customers who respond to multiple marketing media have a longer life time value than those that respond to the first advertisement they see.

7.) Video is the Future!

It is where we are “quickly” going. There is no such thing as “slow” when it comes to the Internet. For a short period of time, your business will stand out from the pack if you incorporate video on it. The top players have already figured this out and are reaping the rewards. Within the next year or two, most websites will be loaded with video.

8.) Oh Yea… To Increase Sales and Opt-ins

Want to convert more traffic on your website? Websites with video are realizing increases of up to 300 to 500%!

Traffic and conversion! These are the two key aspects to making money online. Just about every method of making serious money online be it from affiliate marketing, to AdSense, selling on eBay involves those two steps. So in this article I’ll discuss a bit about videos marketing.

Video has become a huge medium online. YouTube is now considered the second largest search engine in the world next to Google but it also gets twice as many daily views as Google! So YouTube also ticks the traffic box nicely and it’s free traffic which makes it even sweeter! You can also post your video to numerous other video sites easily using sites like TubeMogul. So obviously you don’t want to overlook videos marketing as a traffic source.

Here are my seven tips for increasing traffic using videos marketing.

1. Choose your title carefully and make sure it is frequently searched for but the competition isn’t too high (see my article on Google keywords tool for this).
2. Put the keyword in the filename.
3. Google cannot check videos for duplicate content very well so post the same video on different or even the same account with a different title, description, keywords, length and filename.
4. Set up multiple YouTube accounts with your videos.
5. Post your video as a video response for popular videos in the same niche.
6. Post your videos on Facebook, Twitter etc. and post on the account of popular people or groups in the niche. For example if you’re in the weight loss niche post it on a Facebook group to do with weight loss.
7. Put the link to the product you are selling (or your opt in page if building a list) as the first thing in the description box.

Video e-mail will always be an internet marketer’s dream become a reality. The present state of web technology is not very favourable for video emailing. Nevertheless, that is all set to change when HTML5 gets functional. HTML5 is the next major version of HTML, the programming language used to run the web and build sites. There’s a need to polish the current HTML standard in order to create websites which offer an enriched user experience and that are what HTML5 promises to provide. Presently, the nearest alternative to providing video email is attaching the link to a video in your email. Clicking on the link opens a relevant video player either on your computer or on an internet site. HTML5 may simplify this by getting video to become played within the email itself. It is because HTML5 has been built directly into mail clients and browsers; therefore it will not need a third party video player.

Video makes sense as email content. Here are a few strategies practiced by video experts to get useful video email marketing.

1. Use video as a means, not an end. Video is a means to get your audience to follow via on a call to action. The goals of the email can suffer if the video reveals all without offering some way to take the next step toward a sale, download, registration, donation, etc.

2. Find the right video/copy balance in emails and landing pages. Ensure the video and surrounding copy complement each other. Find a balance between an engaging video and action-oriented copy. The latter usually supplies an outlet for those wanting to explore more, without drawing excessive attention far from the video itself.

3. Consider video analytics. When measuring and testing the effect of video content on the results of the email promotions, through clicks, sales, forwards etc. You must also determine how individuals engage with the video itself, where you can see, the time people watch the video.

4. Keep it brief and draw attention to the player. This metric can help you understand how long your videos should be. A 10-30 seconds worth of video within the actual email is a good goal to prefer.

5. Don’t disguise the video link. Drawing awareness of the video is essential where you use a linked screenshot. That’s where internet marketers miss out, since they fall short making it obvious that the image actually results in a video.

6. Design for failure. Even the best-designed screenshot can break up when images are blocked. And even the best technology can’t assure complete functionality in every situation. You have to layout once the video format is not recognized. The lack of audio in video gifs likewise needs innovative thinking. You can’t just repackage an existing video that has sound, if the audio is an important part of the message.

7. Test out your choices. Using video email there’s a downside among the grade of the in-email video expertise and the cost. If you opt for a relevant video gif or certified video, it’s worth examining against the inexpensive screenshot linked to a video hosted online. It’s important, not only to match the performances of the alternatives in terms of your email aims, but to balance that against fees.

8. Contemplate production and bandwidth charges. Regarding small businesses expenses may outweigh the advantages. It is evident that video production fees, editing, converting to gif, delivery and/or bandwidth charges can be a discouraging factor for some. A relevant video does not have to be costly to be effective.

Video marketing is the most effective way to promote your products and services on the Internet. Prospective clients get a chance to see you in person and see your products in action. Video taping your industry seminars will give a chance for future clients to see how your services and solutions will change the way they do business. Video not only answers the solutions to giving your clients information, you can use the power of video to get great search engine positioning for your online marketing. Google now specifically uses video and other multimedia types to give their searchers as much well rounded content as they can deliver. This means they actively search for video to deliver certain information. Where is your video presence for your company on the Internet? Do you know how easy it can be to create an online viral marketing campaign using the power of simple videos?

I know. You are thinking that video is too complicated and too expensive to consider. But this is no longer the case. The mechanics of video production has lowered the learning curve almost overnight. For a couple of hundred dollars you could be producing effective videos to promote your business. But the real power of video shines through in it’s ability to market itself virally.

What this means for you is that one video can be distributed across the Internet in very short order. And lucky for you, this is a process that be easily outsourced. Processing, uploading and distributing your videos can be time consuming for you, but an outsourcing solution can increase your Internet visibility for as little as $5.00 ann hour. How? By using an outsourcing company that is trained in video marketing. It is such a simple concept, but one underutilized by most outsourcing firms. But a new breed of outsourcing firms are emerging. Ones that can take your business to the next level if you know where to look.

Video marketing has become a well known and viable way to get people attracted to you and visit your website. So why should you get into video marketing? Well let’s break it down then shall we?

The unlocked power of video marketing!

Social media websites, such as youtube, are visited more than one million times a day. That means that youtube alone, gets one million hits a day! These visitors watch videos almost all day, trying to find out some interesting information that they can listen to rather than read. Youtube alone gets one million views, but what about other social media websites? There are tons of them out there such as dailymotion, and they get just as much hits a day as youtube does. This possible amount of traffic is staggering and can increase your website traffic significantly. You don’t need to be steven speilberg. We’re not talking about a full fledged studio dedicated to your 3-5 minutes videos. We’re talking just a simple camera, web came, or computer cam with a microphone. This isn’t state of the art equipment people, and most of these products are free to get. Video marketing is absolutely free. You can submit as many videos as you want, in fact, I recommend that you do! The more videos that you create, the more successful you will become on youtube. Statistically, video marketers with a high amount of videos get more web traffic than video marketers who have a low amount of videos. By simply making a free video, you’ll be seen as an expert in your industry if you know how to do it. If you go onto youtube and sign up, you can choose to be a guru! That’s automatic guru status for you! Video marketing is the best way to get people to pay attention to you. Unlike writing, people pay attention to what you have to say if you made a video about it. That’s the truth. More people listen to bloggers with podcasts more than they listen to bloggers with just text. It’s a simple fact.

Video marketing is a great way to gain tons of traffic to your website, and it’s totally free to do. So get out there, and start making some videos!

It’s true that videos are taking over the net. Videos are a lot easier for us as you don’t need to read them, they can convey much more information (if a picture can say a thousand words then a video can say much more!), they give much better meaning to your words with inflections and gestures, and they are a lot more fun to watch and to make!

The fact is that videos make much better content on your blog, and you can also use them with devastating effect to increase your revenue and build much stronger connections with your readers.

Plus you can do interviews which just don’t have the same impact when you have to write them down and put someone’s name against each paragraph to say who said what!

Of course another added bonus is that once you get into it then creating a video is much easier than writing! You can create a 5 minute video which would take thousands of words to duplicate as an article, and record and publish it in less than 30 minutes.

It was unavoidable: Bloggers, who previously wrote endlessly about everything from religion to tech tips to how to make money online, can now take their comments, recommendation and random experiments to the next level by filming and broadcasting their work, thanks to the latest web trend-video blogging.

Video blogs-also known by their shorter, clunkier name, vlogs — are blogs that primarily feature video shorts instead of text. We are moving from being media consumers to media makers. Although it has not been promoted, the new Apple iTunes pod casting feature supports vlog subscriptions as well.

Things have changed quite a bit from when I started in the film & video business in 1988. Back then, many corporate programs were still shot and edited on film. Video shooting was on “plain Jane”, non-SP, analogue Betacam. Video editing was on Low Band U-Matic – a process that required copious notes to be taken and a day or two of writing all the timecode numbers down for the (linear) on-line edit. Mastering was on bulky one-inch reel to reel video, that was so sensitive to magnetic fields, it couldn’t be taken on a London tube train. Distribution was either on Low Band U-Matic, Betamax (remember that?), or VHS.

Today, nearly twenty years later, the much heralded digital age is upon us. You can shoot on DV, edit on Avid, and burn the result onto DVD without a moment’s thought or any loss of quality. The only stage of the process that has remained more or less the same is the final one: delivery of the program to the viewer. Be it by post, Fed-Ex, or motorcycle courier, someone has to take a copy of your finished program, transport it to where your viewer is going to see it, and then play it on specialized equipment. If your program has to cross borders into another country, chances are you’ll have to have special copies made to conform to that country’s TV standard, and the customer will have to pay a hefty customs charge as well.

The Internet provides a solution to this problem and is, in my view, the perfect medium for the distribution of corporate videos, for companies large and small. Broadband/ ADSL Internet access is rapidly becoming the norm. Around 80% of the UK now has the capability to access Broadband (source: The Guardian) and the figure is higher for some other countries. Here are a few examples of ways this technology can be utilized:

Let’s say you run a small or medium sized company and have made a promotional video to show to potential clients. You can easily stream this from your website. If you don’t want your competition to see your video (and you cannot guarantee a DVD won’t fall into the “wrong” hands), you can password protect that part of the website and make access by invitation only. You could also stream a commercial from your website for the whole world to see – not just people in your local TV area. You could even tie it in to your print advertising, so people would want to visit your site and see your commercial. That certainly beats them getting up to go to the bathroom when your commercial is showing on TV, or fast forwarding it if they’ve videoed the program its being shown in! There’s so much video content of this nature being shown on the web now, Yahoo! has devoted a large area of their search engine to it. Visit Yahoo!, click on the “video” tab and type in “commercial” to see what I mean.

If you run a large company or have staff in more than one place, then video streaming becomes a real boon. In addition to the options available to small businesses, you can use it for corporate communications. You can show the same video to employees in different locations, cities, time zones, or even countries. Apart from converting your video into the correct format (more on that subject later), and having your webmaster upload it to your webspace, the actual costs are practically nothing – and there’s definitely nothing for the tax man to get his teeth into! Your video can cross boarders without having to incur customs charges, and standards conversion becomes a thing of the past.

Getting your training message across also becomes much easier. Employees can watch the video from their computer screens. Add some “interactivity” to the mix, and you can build a training session tailored for each employee. If you’re on a network, you can do this via your company intranet as well as over the web.

With live streaming, one trainer can train several people at the same time, even if they are in different parts of the world. This is particularly useful for medical training. A surgeon can demonstrate a particular technique from a sterile environment, without the operating theatre having to be filled with students. The entire process can also be recorded on video for viewing later.

There are many formats available for digital video, and careful research is necessary to select the most appropriate one. The most popular formats are:

Macromedia Flash (swf)

Microsoft Video (avi)

Motion Picture Experts Group (mpeg)

Quick Time (mov)

Real Media (rm)

Windows Media (wmv)

Streaming video does not quite compare to what viewers are used to seeing on broadcast TV or DVD. The most obvious difference being the optimum screen size is much smaller. Under ideal conditions, streaming video can be clear and continuous, but the latest technology must be used to create, send and receive the video or the results can be unsatisfactory; however, that said, the sort of picture one would see when seated directly in front of the computer monitor is not dissimilar from that seen on a 14″ portable TV viewed from 10 feet or so away.

Because of the smaller screen size, it’s best to avoid any complicated graphics or DVE moves in a streamed video, although still frame graphics can always be shown on the website alongside the video.

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about streaming video. Some of the most common questions I get asked are:

“Don’t I need a special website for streaming video?” No, you don’t. Because the files are large, most free sites won’t host them, but ordinary sites will. I have over five hours of streaming video on my website, and it’s just an ordinary one. Some web hosting companies do charge you extra if you have live streaming video on a continuous basis, but this is usually to cover the extra bandwidth.

“Ah, bandwidth. I’ll bet it uses a lot. Won’t that cost a fortune?” This is sort of true. Video files are large, but they are just binary files. Downloading large files – be they video or software – does use up a lot of bandwidth. However, video streaming formats are especially designed to keep file sizes as small as possible. Bandwidth isn’t all that expensive these days anyway, and many web hosting packages come with a monthly allocation of 50 – 100 gigabytes, which is more than adequate for most applications.

“Some people who want to see my videos have Windows PCs, while others have Macs. Won’t that be a problem?” No. Most streaming formats are compatible with multiple operating systems, and even specific manufacturer’s formats like Microsoft’s Windows Media, and Apple’s Quick Time, have versions that can be used by “the competition”.

“Is streaming video any good on a dial-up connection?” It’s true that streaming video works best via Broadband. The best option is to offer the alternative of downloading the video file as well as streaming it; that way, someone on a dial-up can download the file and watch it from his/her hard drive.

Video streaming can add a whole new dimension to your corporate video, be it for training, communications, or marketing. It’s just like having your own cable-TV channel – only considerably cheaper.

Video gives you the ability to communicate with people in a way that builds trust and a personal connection. Also once you put a video online it should always be there working 24/7 for you and it is also cheap and easy to do. So all in all video has many attributes to like.

Here are a few ideas about making video part of your marketing strategy.

1. Always put your video on your blog, it is or should be the hub of your social media advertising so placing your video there were people can find it and at the same time see more of what you are about is always going to be a good idea.

2. Make the first 15-20 seconds of your video very focused on the benefit people will receive as they watch your video. If you don’t get a person interested in that time they will simply leave your site.

3. Always be yourself. If you are fun and outgoing be fun and outgoing on the video. If you are more reserved and serious then that is what you need to be. Trying to be what you are not will lose a person’s trust faster than anything else you can do.

4. Do an outline of what you want to say before you start talking but do not simply read from a script. By doing an outline of key points you will keep on track to get your message across but you will also allow yourself to be more natural and free flowing and that is much easier for someone watching you.

5. Make your title catchy, preferable use the keyword you are targeting just as you would in any other form of marketing but most importantly gain someone’s attention. Basic copy writing skills are always going to be an important part of your skill set and learning to produce a good headline is vital.

6. Look directly at the camera as if you are speaking to someone at all times. Glancing away will make you seem untrustworthy and unreliable. Yes it takes some practice and you will most likely not be perfect straight away but just relax and talk to the camera and you will find it is something that gets easier with practice.

7. Have a clear call to action at the end of your video. By that I mean tell the person would action you would like them to take at the end of the video. It may simply be that you want them to comment or leave feedback or it may be that you want them to opt in to receive more training. Whatever it is you want ASK for it to happen.

8. When you edit your video make sure you have a call to action/way to contact you as the last credit. It is easy to do with any editing programme you choose but it is most important.

9. Have great lighting; make sure it is bright and easy to see you. Simply putting a brighter bulb in will improve your efforts or you can get a spotlight and direct it towards you. It will light up your face and most certainly make your video higher quality.

10. Get a microphone, they are cheap and improve your audio out of sight. We use a $200 flip camera but you can just as easily start with your webcam, just make sure you have a nice professional background and light yourself well.

11. Promote your video. Put it on YouTube first. If you really want to push things along use Traffic Geyser which is a paid programme but which will blast your video to 40 plus sites or tube mogul which is free but only has about 12-15 sites. Either way get yourself out there.

Five ways you can benefit from video in your business

We can’t deny it, video is crucial for your business! We are a visually driven society. We want information shown to us, and it had better be easy to find.

Proof of our visual preference is the demise of 105 American newspapers in 2009.* Alas, printed newspapers require us to expend energy to get our desired news (walking to the driveway to retrieve it, turning those big paper pages.).

For better, or for worse, the majority of Americans now get their daily news from TV (Cable TV now offers over 800 channels) or the internet (I admit, I actually learned of a new frog species from a Facebook posting).

Even on social networks, videos rule: more people are likely to check out and forward a posting that shows a video than one that has a link to an article. (It’s the forwarding that makes the video so effective).

As of May 2010, YouTube, the most well known of the video sharing sites, exceeds 2 billion views a day!

The unmistakable point is this: Visual stimulation is what we want, and as it relates to your business, the power of video is essential to your bottom line.

Five ways video can be beneficial in your business:

Branding: A video on your website homepage enforces a visual branding of your company within seconds and creates trust and recognition of your company’s culture. This video can feature you and/ or your product, but it is highly effective in increasing your conversion rate on your site, sometimes up to 300%! No matter what your business, there is a way to showcase it visually! Promotion: Video blogs, (example of a successful video blogger: http://www.tv.WineLibrary.com ) internet commercials, pitch videos to prospective clients or even entice investors! Employee Instruction: Clone yourself virtually! Instructional videos for new employees can deliver the training while you are actively building your business saving you time while you are making money. Customer instruction: Create a video to demonstrate proper use of your product or assembly. This tool alone can drive a consumer to purchase your product over a competitor! Your product will appear more user-friendly. Product: Put your expertise on video and market it as an informational product. Add a revenue stream!

Video need not be a huge expense, but it is important to keep the integrity and quality of your company brand consistent. Sometimes it is worth the extra investment to create something of lasting value, and sometimes it is more appropriate to keep it simple and fun. Most importantly, if you have not started to use video at all, start by thinking about the list above and asking around for referrals and pricing for various production possibilities. There is a wide variety of pricing out there, so keep going until you find the right fit for you and your company.

Your market is waiting for you, bring them information that is visual and entertaining, and you’ll watch the benefits to your bottom line!

Video marketing is a fantastic method of marketing, and a great way to drive traffic to your website absolutely for free. Free traffic, means free leads for your business, which gives you a 100% profit margin. Which is without a doubt is huge incentive for any savvy internet marketer to include this method of marketing in their repertoire. There is a lot more to video marketing than just recording a video and uploading it to a video hosting site, there are many points to consider when looking to create a powerful video to keep your audience interested and listening to what you have to say. In this article I will go over things to consider for the perfect recording.

Video quality

For optimum viewer experience you want to ensure that you video is of as high a quality as you can achieve. Many use inbuilt computer webcams or standalone webcams, however these don’t always produce the best quality. I personally use a digital video camera, but you needn’t invest in an additional camera. Most people have a digital photo camera and most of these have a “video mode” function which can produce incredible quality. Also by simply looking at your functions it’s highly likely that you can adjust them to provider a finer recording. The only thing you may need to invest in is a larger memory card to fit all your new recordings on!

Setting

Put yourself in your audience’s seat, many people don’t pay attention to their surroundings when they record a video, and time and time again I see people sat in a cluttered room or office. Now not only does this not look overly professional, but you are giving your viewer’s distractions, which in turn will take their focus off of you and the message you are trying to get across. So after setting up your camera, look at your surroundings and make sure that they are welcoming and tidy.

Lighting

This may seem like a very simple thing to mention, but you would be surprised how many people don’t pay attention to it, its little things like this that can put your viewers off immediately, if your room is dull and dark, and your viewer can’t see who is trying to connect with them it’s likely they will lose interest pretty quickly. I tend to do my videos in natural daylight, however if for whatever reason that is not possible, keep yourself illuminated by switching on a few more lamps, or positioning yourself somewhere completely new, get yourself in the spotlight!

Think before you speak.

Many people find it difficult to remember what they want to say during their videos. Take your time, there is no rush! Before your video, prepare the points that you want to cover within your video, and go over them in your head, plan what you want to say and how to structure your video before hitting that record button. If you fluff what you wanted to say, stop, breathe and go again, you’ll get there in the end.

Smile

Oh so simple, but often forgotten. A smile doesn’t cost a penny. When you see someone smile, it’s a natural inbuilt instinct to smile back. So put on a happy face for your audience, you don’t need to be grinning like a Cheshire cat; however a dull demeanour makes for a dull video.

I absolutely love video marketing, and use it regularly in my marketing efforts.
