Video Games Won’t Make You Smarter
It’s believed that video games like computer games, hand held games and even brain games may somehow contribute to improve one’s intellectual capacity. In a recent study in London, people who play video and online games does not make a person any smarter.
Researches took several participants aged 18 to 60 years old to play computer games which are designed to somehow improve their memory, reasoning, and other mental skills for at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week.
The participants was then compared to people who didn’t play video games but are all Internet savvy. Both party were given IQ tests before and after the research. The result shows that the participants who played video games got lower average than those people who spends more time in the Internet.
The logical explanation of the experiment shows that video or online games does not add any improvement to the brain functions except pure enjoyment and personal satisfaction. You cannot depend on video games to enhance one’s mental capacity because the mind is set to just in limited scale and no room is intended for improvement. Plus, gaming skills don’t contribute much to everyday real life making online games just for fun.
On the other hand, Internet savvy people has much better mental cognitive skills than those people who spends more time playing games. The research suggests that the quality of information found on the Internet helps improve their knowledge just like reading books. Internet is a big online library so to speak, that’s why people who spent more time surfing helps improves their knowledge.
The research suggests that physical activities such as exercise and sports helps more to improve brain function than playing video games. Physical activities can initiate in producing new healthy brain cells which helps improve mental capacities to improve. Also, proper nutrition are highly recommended as our brain needs essential vitamins and minerals.
In summary, the research shows that video games are not responsible for any mental improvement of any person. It is much wiser to spend more time reading books, surf the Internet for quality information, physical activities and proper nutrition to better enhance our brain functions.
