With my Sony video camera (which is 8mm/digital), I plug it into the computer with a firewire connection. Then I went out on the web and downloaded free software for converting the data to .wav or whatever format you want.

Sounds like you have a miniDV cam which is great because you can easily import that into your computer because it is already digital video. You just need a firewire cable and a firewire port to connect your camcorder to your computer. Then put the cam into VCR mode, hit record with a video capture software and you are off to the races.

StashSpace.Com has an easy app you can use to capture your video and share it privately with you friends and family. You can capture the video onto your computer using a firewire cable or just send them your tapes and they will convert your video for you. They don’t have any limits so you can upload any length of video.

If you can get a good editing software. Plug your camcorder into your pc, via a firewire connection. Put the camcorder in playback/review mode and turn on. Open your editing program and choose capture. Add all your clips to the time line, add music and render to either a disc or a file. Save your work.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don’t come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.
