Where can I get a professional video camera?

3
I am looking for a professional video camera, like the ones directors use in music videos and actual Hollywood movies. If anyone knows a bunch of em, please list them. That would be helpful.

Well you just got yourself into one of the most expensive hobbies in the world. Anyway a good camcorder definitely be on tape. A couple that come to mind are the Panasonic DVX100, and the Canon GL2. They are probably the cheapest “movie quality” cameras. Both are going to run about $1000-$3500. The Canon HV20 is a nice camcorder as well. It was actually used for shooting part of the movie “21.” It runs about $500. However a good camera isn’t all you need. You want good quality sound no doubt? So you are going to need an external mic, I recommend the Rode Videomic. You should get some good sound quality from that. Other than that you are going to probably want a boom pole for your mic, which can be about 100 dollars, however I will put links at the bottom for places you can make a boom pole for about $20. Then you need software. Some good software is Adobe Premiere Elements or Pro, Sony Vegas (any of them), or Final Cut Express or Pro. Then if you want special effects you need a program for that and so on. If you want a more detailed answer let me know.

Check bhphotovideo or adorama for the camcorders.
Any of the Sony HDCAM, XDCAM or upper end of the HVR series camcorders. This is a good place to start…
They are most common, but Panasonic, Canon and JVC make pro-grade cams, too. Pretty much mostly over about $5,000 each. The lenses typically cost more than the cameras.

There there’s the Red camera system…

For Hollywood movies, look into the film cameras made by PanaVision, CineAlta (Sony), Arris, or VariCam (Panasonic). They are most common.

You will need a high end audio editing system, several different mics, lights and LOTS of other stuff…
