How do I make a music video with an ordinary camera?

2
My friend and I want to make a music video. The only thing I have is my canon camera. Is it possible to
a) make lots of little videos and then edit them together into one long video
b) add music?

I need very detailed directions in the most simple language possible, because I am not very computer/camera savvy.

Thank you so much!

If you have Windows XP or Vista, you can use Movie Maker, which is included free with either OS.

Movie Maker allows you to easily edit your movies and photos and add music and effects. There is a Help file you can read if you’re unsure of how to use it, but it’s not that difficult to use.

However, if your Canon camera is one of the very latest models, then you might not be able to use Movie Maker due to Canon using a new and different video codec, not yet supported by Movie Maker.

But, if your camera is not the latest model…Movie Maker should be just fine.

Your first problem, as I see it, is going to be audio. With the on board mic you’re going to have lots of echos in the room and perhaps distortion. You’ll need some kind of sound system to make that happen.

You’re also going to need some better software than movie maker. It’s fine but it tends to create lots of noise in the video. I use a program by Roxio called Creator 10. It does a great job of editing but beware, as already said, that it supports your camera’s codec. The program retails for about $100.
