What’s a good 1st video camera to purchase that has good quality video?

I’d want to use it everyday life recording and uploading to the computer and making DVDs for family. But I’m looking for something with a decent image quality (nothing blurry or grey/faded looking). But I’m a total video camera novice so I have no idea what to look for and I also don’t want something too complicated as far as transferring the video to the computer….
