How do I get a video from my camcorder to windows movie maker?

I have a JVC camcorder that is relatively new. I have a video on a DV cartridge and it is hooked up to my windows XP computer via USB cable. I am having trouble downloading the video to my computer, i’m planning to put it on youtube, can someone help?
I can’t get my camcorder to show up on “my computer” i’m having trouble actually getting the video into a file. camera didnt come with a disc
