How to convert a video cassette so you can have it on your computer?

5
I have video cassette tapes that you can play in a video player so you can watch it on tv but I am making a tribute type movie for someone and I need that footage to be in it. So I would some how need to save that video cassette on my computer (format shouldn’t matter). Also do you know any video editing programs, currently I use Windows Movie Maker and Cyber Link Power Director. I have a PC so I don’t think I can use iMove although I love their effects.

You need to buy or rent a special machine to hook up to your computer that you put the tapes in.

The easiest solution in this case is a video capture card. It’s a piece of hardware you install in your computer (or plug into a USB slot) and has audio and video inputs.

You connect your VCR to the inputs and use the software that came with the capture card to record the video onto your computer for editing.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio is a great editing program, as is Adobe Premiere Elements.

You’ll need a TV input device of some sort for the computer. Hook the player to the device, as if it was a TV set. Then run video recording software as you play the tape and record it on the computer.

If you want to do it with less work, pay a conversion company to convert the tapes to CDs. (Make sure they convert to a file type your editing software accepts.)
